Medical English gets boost in Spanish university sector

Students in a wide range of medical disciplines in Spain can now benefit from the world’s number one test of medical English, OET. The test is accepted by healthcare boards and councils in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Malta, Ukraine and Singapore.

CRUE (Council of Rectors of Spanish Universities) has officially recognised OET as a reliable English exam for the Spanish university sector. OET is the leading English medical English language test for healthcare professionals, which has been developed for 12 healthcare professions. CRUE joins a growing list of organisations around the world that accept OET as proof of a candidate’s ability to communicate effectively in a demanding healthcare environment. It has recognised the test at levels B2, C1 and C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference, which is the international standard of English language ability.

Mickey Bonin, Head of Strategy and Products, for OET said:

"English has become a crucial skill for medical students who want to succeed. OET provides Spanish medical students with the opportunities to demonstrate their English language ability and be part of the global healthcare community. OET reflects real life workplace tasks and relevant language skills that healthcare professionals are likely to face. This means that Spanish students who take OET will not only have a positive experience of their medical courses, but it will give them the communication skills they need to continue their professional development and make a real difference in the global workplace."

OET has been specifically designed to accurately reflect candidates’ ability to communicate in an English-speaking healthcare workplace. Test material is underpinned by ongoing research to ensure OET remains relevant and accurate.

OET has been developed specifically for 12 healthcare professions: Dentistry, Dietetics, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography, Speech Pathology and Veterinary Science.
