The beginning of September marked a big milestone for international pharmacists and pharmacy technicians hoping to work in Canada, with the OET Test now accepted by nearly all key pharmacy regulators in the country.
For international pharmacy graduates dreaming of a new life in the beautiful nature or quaint cities of Canada, Pharmacists’ Gateway Canada is a great resource and entry point for the first step in the process to becoming licensed in English-speaking provinces.
As you’ll find on the Pharmacists’ Gateway website, OET Test results are now accepted for registration of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians by the majority of provincial pharmacy regulatory authorities including:
- Alberta College of Pharmacy,
- College of Pharmacists of British Columbia,
- New Brunswick College of Pharmacists,
- Newfoundland & Labrador Pharmacy Board,
- Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists,
- Prince Edward Island College of Pharmacy,
- and Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals.
Considering a bridging program first?
Some international pharmacy graduates may need to or wish to complete a bridging program prior to registration. You can use your OET Test results to apply to the Certificate to Canadian Pharmacy Practice program at the University of Alberta or the Canadian Pharmacy Practice Program at the University of British Columbia.
Big opportunities for pharmacy technicians
Pharmacy technicians are also in high demand in Canada. Many pharmacy technician programs accept OET Test results for admission, including:
- Bow Valley College, NorQuest College, and Red Deer Polytechnic in Alberta;
- Selkirk College in British Columbia;
- New Brunswick Community College in New Brunswick;
- Eastern College and Nova Scotia Community College in Nova Scotia;
- CTS Canadian Career College and Niagara College in Ontario;
- and Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Saskatchewan.
